Barry,

It's a nice site. I'm impressed and it seems to be what I need. The Lord provides. I can see how you believe. Your site may help me get into deeper discussions on the Bible.

Nice site, Barry. I will have to dig deeper into it later.
I am curious how your studies are going with regard to open theism. I haven't had the chance to do much since our last conversations on it back in May or June. I am still fascinated by it, though.

I also noted that you are into studying conditional immortality. I suppose you have read Fudge's book The Fire That Consumes.

Anyway, thanks for a good resource.

Buzz,
is your confusion based upon not knowing what I am talking about or just shock at the subject?

I was referring to a statement on Barry's web page (to which he has a link in the original post). I was simply discussing a resource avaliable on the subject.

I'm interested in Open Theism. Oh wait! I'm thinking about open view. I don't know what Open Theism is.

Regarding immortality (and who is immortal), here are four different translations of 1 Timothy 6:15b,16a.
What is your interpretation of this scripture? :confused:KJV
The blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;
Who only hath immortality.

NIV
God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
who alone is immortal.

NASB
He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
who alone possesses immortality.

AMP
The blessed, only Sovereign (Ruler), the King of kings and the Lord of lords,
Who alone has immortality [in the sense of exemption from every kind of death].After our physical body dies, is our soul or spirit immortal?

What is this scripture saying?

I'm presently reading John Sanders book, The God Who Risks. Most of what I have studied leads me closer to accepting the Open View, although I'm still not completely convinced yet.

Yes, I have read Fudge's book. Very, very interesting. Another thing I'm not sure of yet though.

IHS,
Barry

Anyway, thanks for a good resource.

LittleLamb,
Open Theism, Open View, and Free Will Theism are all referring to the same thing.

I find myself in the same boat. The open view fellows have opened up a can of worms that my feeble brain can't put back together, yet I still have some questions that they haven't answered either...

I am a little further along on this one than the open view. I tend to agree with Fudge. I really believe that this view not only has scriptural support, but is more in line with the nature of God.

For Buzz and any others who might want to debate on it, I will have to pass until after my semester is over. I just found a few extra minutes today, but usually, I don't have the time.

Let me know about Sander's book. I have it on my amazon wish list, but so far I have only read Boyd's book.

You got it right me again!

God is the only one who has immortality. We don't. It was taken from us when we sinned. The Bible says:

"And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever."

God took decisive action to prevent the sin problem from hanging around for all eternity. Immortality will be granted to the saved at the second coming:

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed-- in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory." (1 Cor 15:54)
