View Full Version : Wolves in Sheep's Clothing Amongst Us

The genesis of this thread lies in the fact that I was a victim of two churchmen, whom I would liken to ”wolves in sheep’s clothing.” Because of their trusted church status, I gave them a greater degree of trust than would have been given to a "non-Christian."
All I can tell you, the reader, is to listen closely to the Apostle when he said:Acts 20:
29. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. What is a ”wolf in sheep’s clothing”? Do we have wolves intermixed amongst the Body of Christ in the present day? And what is the purpose of the wolf?John 10:
12b. The wolf catcheth [the sheep], and scattereth them. And when a wolf catches a sheep, he kills it and eats it. The flock provides a continuous supply of wool for warmth and meat for sustenance. The "wolves in sheep's clothing" thrive off of the faithful innocence of the flock. :nervous:
A "wolf in sheep's clothing" can carry the title of church member, layperson, bishop, elder, pastor, preacher or general conference representative. They remain hidden because their outward appearance looks like any other sheep. To identify them, we must identify their hidden works or poisonous fruits -- and I'll touch on that in a second.
I would liken a ”wolf in sheep’s clothing” to a ”tare.” A tare looks like wheat, but it is simply a good-for-nothing-weed that cannot be uprooted until harvest-time, because to uproot it any sooner will also cause the surrounding wheat to be uprooted and, thus, destroyed. And we don’t want to destroy the wheat.
The bible describes it this way:Matthew 13:
38. The field is the world; the good seed (wheat) are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;
25. The enemy (the devil) came and sowed tares among the wheat (or amongst the Body of Christ).
28. Since the enemy hath done this, the servants (angels) asked the Lord, ”Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?”
29-30. But the Lord said, ”Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.”
40. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.Exactly who is the wheat and who is a tare? After all, a ”wolf in sheep’s clothing” looks like a sheep – and a tare looks like wheat. The differences may be extremely subtle. How can we distinguish the ”wolves in sheep’s clothing” from the Body of Christ?
The best way to prevent the sheep from being victimized by the ”wolves in sheep’s clothing” is to identify them. Jesus said gave us wise advice when He said:Matthew 7:
16 & 20. Ye shall know them by their fruits (works). The true nature of wolves will generally be revealed in their greed or in their lust for money, which causes them to stumble. The scripture describes it this way:1 Timothy 6:
10. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Luke 16:
13. No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon (money). All the wolves and tares will be openly rejected by the Lord Jesus Christ at the end of the age. He knows the thoughts and intents of their corrupted hearts because:Hebrews 4:
12. The word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Matthew 10:
26. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.
1 Cor. 3:
13. Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. On Judgment Day, the Lord Jesus will reject the ”wolves in sheep’s clothing” and the tares. The Lord Jesus described His judgment this way:Matthew 7:
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father, which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, ”Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?”
23 And then will I profess unto them, ”I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”Have you noticed that the "wolves in sheep's clothing" frequently quote the above scripture?
So, exactly who are the brethren of the Lord Jesus Christ? Jesus Himself said:Matthew 12:
50. For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother and sister. Wolves and tares, ”watch out” because the Lord Jesus is coming soon to remove you from His church!!! Revelation 22:
12. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work (fruit) shall be. And for those of us who have been victimized by the ”wolves in sheep’s clothing,” what can we say?Romans 8
18. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Yes, I reckon!!! Hallelujah!!!

Good point. I had never considered the wolves and tares together. Interesting.
I guess one big difference is that the tare is fairly passive, simply taking up resources from the wheat.
The Wolf is a predator that is trying to kill the sheep.
But they are both bad.

Wolves are tares with an attitude! :D A tare is content to take up space and eat of the wheat's table, but a wolf tries to wound the sheep, and get them to fall behind the flock so they can be devoured. Wolves bring division and try to draw men and women after themselves.
Wolves(real ones) don't usually attack the healthy sheep. The find a young, old, or crippled sheep and the sneak up and bite it. Afterwards, they draw back and watch the wounded sheep fall farther and farther behind until it is no longer with the flock and the ram or shepherd which protects the flock. Then they pounce on it and devour it. Likewise, wolves in the "church" will share poison or sow discord with a brother or sister so they will begin to distrust their leadership, or the church. They may try to draw them to themselves by sharing how much they truely care. They lie, just like the serpent they get you to doubt God's word by reinterpreting or downplaying it. It is death to follow these wolves. We must beware that ANYONE should try to draw us away from the Church because of any reason. Don't let satan have a chance! If anyone, no matter how much truth they claim they have, tries to tell you they have a better way and it is to draw you away from the fellowship of believers, comes to you beware!
The best way to deal with wolves is to flee to the shepherd or ram. The wolves will shy away from them. Likewise, spiritually speaking, when a wolf comes to you ask questions like " Let's go talk this over with that person." Another is, " Let's go speak with the pastor." Or " Can I quote you on this?" Don't think you need to be nice to a wolf. Tell them to take a hike, that you don't want to hear it!!!
Pastor Carter Conlon of Times Square Church preached a powerful message on this. www.worldchallenge.org is, I believe the website to search for the message on it. Look for a message dealing with wolves. Actually, it was a number of years ago, and I couldn't find it listed there. Bummer! :( Still it's a good site to check out. :)

No problem bro! I went to the College, Mt. Zion, so that's why I'm familiar to those pastors. The school used to be three years plus internship, but I think it's down to two plus internship. The pastor of the Church at Zion was a classmate of mine.

Another way the sheep are scattered...
Lack of a Shepherd...
Eze 34:5 And they were scattered, because [there is] no shepherd: and they became meat to all the beasts of the field, when they were scattered.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zec 13:7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man [that is] my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mat 26:31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mar 14:27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

THE BOOK OF MORONI
CHAPTER 7
An invitation to enter into the rest of the Lord—Pray with real intent—The Spirit of Christ enables men to know good from evil—Satan persuades men to deny Christ and do evil—The prophets manifest the coming of Christ—By faith miracles are wrought and angels minister—Men should hope for eternal life and cleave unto charity.
1-48 AND now I, Moroni, write a few of the words of my father Mormon, which he spake concerning faith, hope, and charity; for after this manner did he speak unto the people, as he taught them in the synagogue which they had built for the place of worship.
And now I, Mormon, speak unto you, my beloved brethren; and it is by the grace of God the Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, and his holy will, because of the gift of his calling unto me, that I am permitted to speak unto you at this time.
Wherefore, I would speak unto you that are of the church, that are the peaceable followers of Christ, and that have obtained a sufficient hope by which ye can enter into the rest of the Lord, from this time henceforth until ye shall rest with him in heaven.
And now my brethren, I judge these things of you because of your peaceable walk with the children of men.
For I remember the word of God which saith by their works ye shall know them; for if their works be good, then they are good also.
For behold, God hath said a man being evil cannot do that which is good; for if he offereth a gift, or prayeth unto God, except he shall do it with real intent it profiteth him nothing.
For behold, it is not counted unto him for righteousness.
For behold, if a man being evil giveth a gift, he doeth it grudgingly; wherefore it is counted unto him the same as if he had retained the gift; wherefore he is counted evil before God.
And likewise also is it counted evil unto a man, if he shall pray and not with real intent of heart; yea, and it profiteth him nothing, for God receiveth none such.
Wherefore, a man being evil cannot do that which is good; neither will he give a good gift.
For behold, a bitter fountain cannot bring forth good water; neither can a good fountain bring forth bitter water; wherefore, a man being a servant of the devil cannot follow Christ; and if he follow Christ he cannot be a servant of the devil.
Wherefore, all things which are good cometh of God; and that which is evil cometh of the devil; for the devil is an enemy unto God, and fighteth against him continually, and inviteth and enticeth to sin, and to do that which is evil continually.
But behold, that which is of God inviteth and enticeth to do good continually; wherefore, every thing which inviteth and enticeth to do good, and to love God, and to serve him, is inspired of God.
Wherefore, take heed, my beloved brethren, that ye do not judge that which is evil to be of God, or that which is good and of God to be of the devil.
For behold, my brethren, it is given unto you to judge, that ye may know good from evil; and the way to judge is as plain, that ye may know with a perfect knowledge, as the daylight is from the dark night.
For behold, [b]the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil; wherefore, I show unto you the way to judge; for every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God.
But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil; for after this manner doth the devil work, for he persuadeth no man to do good, no, not one; neither do his angels; neither do they who subject themselves unto him.
And now, my brethren, seeing that ye know the light by which ye may judge, which light is the light of Christ, see that ye do not judge wrongfully; for with that same judgment which ye judge ye shall also be judged.
Wherefore, I beseech of you, brethren, that ye should search diligently in the light of Christ that ye may know good from evil; and if ye will lay hold upon every good thing, and condemn it not, ye certainly will be a child of Christ.
And now, my brethren, how is it possible that ye can lay hold upon every good thing?
And now I come to that faith, of which I said I would speak; and I will tell you the way whereby ye may lay hold on every good thing.
For behold, God knowing all things, being from everlasting to everlasting, behold, he sent angels to minister unto the children of men, to make manifest concerning the coming of Christ; and in Christ there should come every good thing.
And God also declared unto prophets, by his own mouth, that Christ should come.
And behold, there were divers ways that he did manifest things unto the children of men, which were good; and all things which are good cometh of Christ; otherwise men were fallen, and there could no good thing come unto them.
Wherefore, by the ministering of angels, and by every word which proceeded forth out of the mouth of God, men began to exercise faith in Christ; and thus by faith, they did lay hold upon every good thing; and thus it was until the coming of Christ.
And after that he came men also were saved by faith in his name; and by faith, they become the sons of God. And as surely as Christ liveth he spake these words unto our fathers, saying: Whatsoever thing ye shall ask the Father in my name, which is good, in faith believing that ye shall receive, behold, it shall be done unto you.
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, have miracles ceased because Christ hath ascended into heaven, and hath sat down on the right hand of God, to claim of the Father his rights of mercy which he hath upon the children of men?
For he hath answered the ends of the law, and he claimeth all those who have faith in him; and they who have faith in him will cleave unto every good thing; wherefore he advocateth the cause of the children of men; and he dwelleth eternally in the heavens.
And because he hath done this, my beloved brethren, have miracles ceased? Behold I say unto you, Nay; neither have angels ceased to minister unto the children of men.
For behold, they are subject unto him, to minister according to the word of his command, showing themselves unto them of strong faith and a firm mind in every form of godliness.
And the office of their ministry is to call men unto repentance, and to fulfil and to do the work of the covenants of the Father, which he hath made unto the children of men, to prepare the way among the children of men, by declaring the word of Christ unto the chosen vessels of the Lord, that they may bear testimony of him.
And by so doing, the Lord God prepareth the way that the residue of men may have faith in Christ, that the Holy Ghost may have place in their hearts, according to the power thereof; and after this manner bringeth to pass the Father, the covenants which he hath made unto the children of men.
And Christ hath said: If ye will have faith in me ye shall have power to do whatsoever thing is expedient in me.
And he hath said: Repent all ye ends of the earth, and come unto me, and be baptized in my name, and have faith in me, that ye may be saved.
And now, my beloved brethren, if this be the case that these things are true which I have spoken unto you, and God will show unto you, with power and great glory at the last day, that they are true, and if they are true has the day of miracles ceased?
Or have angels ceased to appear unto the children of men? Or has he withheld the power of the Holy Ghost from them? Or will he, so long as time shall last, or the earth shall stand, or there shall be one man upon the face thereof to be saved?
Behold I say unto you, Nay; for it is by faith that miracles are wrought; and it is by faith that angels appear and minister unto men; wherefore, if these things have ceased wo be unto the children of men, for it is because of unbelief, and all is vain.
For no man can be saved, according to the words of Christ, save they shall have faith in his name; wherefore, if these things have ceased, then has faith ceased also; and awful is the state of man, for they are as though there had been no redemption made.
But behold, my beloved brethren, I judge better things of you, for I judge that ye have faith in Christ because of your meekness; for if ye have not faith in him then ye are not fit to be numbered among the people of his church.
And again, my beloved brethren, I would speak unto you concerning hope. How is it that ye can attain unto faith, save ye shall have hope?
And what is it that ye shall hope for? Behold I say unto you that ye shall have hope through the atonement of Christ and the power of his resurrection, to be raised unto life eternal, and this because of your faith in him according to the promise.

Wherefore, if a man have faith he must needs have hope; for without faith there cannot be any hope.
And again, behold I say unto you that he cannot have faith and hope, save he shall be meek, and lowly of heart.
If so, his faith and hope is vain, for none is acceptable before God, save the meek and lowly in heart; and if a man be meek and lowly in heart, and confesses by the power of the Holy Ghost that Jesus is the Christ, he must needs have charity; for if he have not charity he is nothing; wherefore he must needs have charity.
And charity suffereth long, and is kind, and envieth not, and is not puffed up, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, and rejoiceth not in iniquity but rejoiceth in the truth, beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, if ye have not charity, ye are nothing, for charity never faileth. Wherefore, cleave unto charity, which is the greatest of all, for all things must fail—
But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure. Amen

An old Cherokee was teaching his grandson about life, he said, "A fight is going on inside of us. It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil - he is anger, envy, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.
The other one is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, empathy, truth, compassion and faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather which wolf would win.
The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

Acts 20:29... We have Paul using Christ's reference regarding Wolves in Sheep's Clothing. This is rather ironic. The only defense Paul was engaged in at the time was defending his own heretical doctrines from the Gospel of the Real Apostles who were trying to take back Asia Minor and the Greek Penisula from Paul's Gentile Franchise Church that was busy stamping out the Messianic Judaism which Christ had spent his ministry trying to establish.
One wonders what Paul was afraid of. He was the one preaching abrogation of the law and Salvation by Faith. What could be more damaging then that. His opposition was preaching Righteousness and Law. how could that possibly hurt anything. Paul was simply protecting his Empire -- his Franchise of the Leter of Acts 15. As Acts and Galacians tell us, a lot of money was going through Paul's hands. did not paul say that he remembers eating poorly and remembers eating well, and he much prefers eating well. Well, he sure did.
No, don't be fooled by Paul. he was the Wolf. And he largely succeeded. There is no Christian Church today. We have a church which teaches the Wolf's Doctrine of Salvation for Nothing and Rejection of Law. We have a doctrine that forgets Christ had a Moral Teaching but insists we are Saved because the Pharisees voted to have Jesus murdered. A good enough Doctrine if you were a Pharisee. Paul was a Pharisee. We are not Saved by our Righteousness, but because Paul had Jesus of Navereth executed. Who is the Wolf?

A lot of truth to what you say, Leo. And I appreciate your sense of humor, but I still think Jesus chose Paul for a peculiar work that he was best suited for.
Would an unconverted wolf admit to being a wolf?
1Ti 1:15 This [is] a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

Leo, your argumet is so far from reason that it is not worth debate.
It never ceases to amaze me at the wolves who claim to be Christian, yet deny the Word.
I guess the hint for you is either you accept the whole of the Word of God or you have rejected the whole of it.

Have you ever noticed that Paul was the Archetype and Prototype of all the swindling Evangelists?
Yes, I think that God chose Paul for a particular work. During any Chastisement God indeed does pick the Chastiser. Attila the Hun, Genghis Khan, Timerlane, Napolean, Hitler, even George Washington -- they were all under a Divine Protection -- or at least the protection of the Avenging Angels so that they could complete their horrible missions. In all of their lives what is most remarkable was that nothing could kill them. Washington and Napolean could both ride into the thick of battle and come out with their cloaks shot to ribbons. Bonaparte eventually stopped such antics because it was becoming a burden to replace all of the close associates who would dare follow him.
Why would God protect Evil? The Sins of Humanity need to be punished. God is dead serious. So he commissions some humans who will simply stir up trouble on a grandiose scale. Look at Paul's accomplishments -- he was able to stir up anti-Jewish riots in Greece and Asia Minor which spilled over in Anti-christian riots in Jerusalem where the Original Apostles were murdered in retaliation. A civil war started between the Lawless Gentile Christians and the Original Jewish Christians which so reverberated through the Empire that Rome finally decided to destroy Jew and Christian alike. So, when Christ had predicted that Jerusalem would be utterly destroyed, he knew he would be correct in this and used Paul as one of the dominoes that would see to it.
But this does not make anything that Paul says sacred. God also used the Black Plague, but that does not make it good for our spiritual health.

Firstly, notice I wont even address your arguments of Paul being akin to some bloody tyrant servant of the Evil One, nor the notion that they were Divinely protected by God. Nor will I adress the argument of Paul's Work being like unto a "Black Plague."
If people had listened to Paul and turned from their wickedness just as if they had listened to his Master, Jesus, they would have avoided a "Black Plague."
Every word of Paul's Epistles are Sacred with a Capital "S" and Holy with a capital "H."
"BIBLE DICTIONARY
PAULINE EPISTLES
Paul's 14 epistles found in our present N.T. were written to members of the Church who already had some knowledge of the gospel. They are not evangelistic; rather, they are regulatory in nature. The arrangement is neither chronological, geographical, nor alphabetical, but by length, in descending order from the longest (Romans) to the shortest (Philemon). This is the case except with the epistle to the Hebrews, which was placed last because some have questioned whether or not it was written by Paul. The dating and chronological grouping of the epistles as presented below is approximate, but seems consistent with the known facts.
An advantage in studying the epistles in chronological order is that the reader sees the differences in the types of problems the Church encountered as the years passed and circumstances changed. Early membership was mostly Jewish, and problems included questions about the law of Moses. Later, when the gentile membership had increased, problems involved items of Greek philosophy. Early persecution was from the Jews and the Judaizers. Later persecution came from the Roman government. These things are visible in the epistles not by sharp distinction, but by the gradual shift of emphasis."

2Cr 3:12-18 Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
And not as Moses, [which] put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which [vail] is done away in Christ.
But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord [is], there [is] liberty.
But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, [even] as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2Cr 4:1-12 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to [give] the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
[We are] troubled on every side, yet not distressed; [we are] perplexed, but not in despair;
Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
So then death worketh in us, but life in you.

Wolves use priestcraft not praise.
Psa 50:23 Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth [his] conversation [aright] will I shew the salvation of God.
Because they seek contention not peace.
Jer 8:6 I hearkened and heard, [but] they spake not aright: no man repented him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turned to his course, as the horse rusheth into the battle.
Even when they speak of peace, they speak to provoke the "Right," and defile pure knowledge of the Holy One of Israel.
